{style files} dark denim, ruffles and a blazer

jeans: gap, belt: pieces, tank top: jcrew, blazer: zara, necklace: schmuck art, shoes: tamaris
i love this outfit - it's so me. the blazer from zara is super versatile, i wish there was a store close to us but it may be better for our finances that there isn't one. i just sent my parents a huge list of zara toddler clothes to bring from Germany... yeah you could say that i have a problem.
at least the little mister is going to look super handsome.

and on a totally random note: last night we watched a great documentary called "being elmo" about puppeteer kevin clash. it was super interesting, touching and very inspirational. it's on netflix in case you'd like to see it as well.

have a great weekend everyone!

{style files} spring beach vacation

pants: old navy, shirt: old navy, cardigan: ae, sunglasses: cole haan (broke them), shoes: old navy

hey everyone, i'm back. we spent the last week on a little vacation/work trip in florida. we go to the same place every spring and once again it was beautiful. totally didn't want to leave. tried to convince the hubs that we need to move - didn't work. bummer.
it was so relaxing and i didn't even make an effort to take any outfit pictures. this is all i have - a few crappy cell phone pics. i did miss blogging and our internet wasn't fast enough to do anything with, so i didn't get to read my faves either. got some catching up to do this week.

{guest post} parallel world designs

today i give you vanessa from parallel world designs. her jewelry has a natural and organic feel and she is so very talented. i own one of her awesome pieces and absolutely love it. make sure you check out her shop and use that 10% discount.

My name is Vanessa Acosta and I am the creative mind behind Parallel World Designs. I launched Parallel World Designs just a couple of months ago, and the response has been great! But before I decided to create Parallel World, I was just making jewelry for myself. Like most people, I didn't have the sufficient funds to buy designer jewelry, so I put my noggin to good use and started to seek my tools in unexpected places. I became a DIY queen and slowly started to create piece after piece. Most of the pieces I was creating were found objects, and recycled materials. That's what really got me to pursue jewelry designing.

The biggest inspiration is what the world brings to me, things like culture and nature. I use materials like crystals, hair pipe bones and even seek ideas from traditional tribal jewelry techniques. I find inspiration from EVERYWHERE, because I've discovered that if you look everywhere for inspiration then it comes from very unexpected places and that always gives the best results. As for my designs, they have an adaptable aesthetic to them, so I leave it up to the wearer to transform the piece with their own style. I wanted to create jewelry that was self expressive and minimal so the wearer could transform that to their liking.

As for the metaphysical side of this madness, the jewelry also serves as a double purpose. The crystals encased in the bullet casing, or the leather wrapped crystals all have a metaphyiscal properties to them to help in certain aspects of your life. Amethyst for example is a great crystal for calming and maintaining equilibrium in your life. It's great to know that what you wear is also helping your soul in someway and I think thats what I like most about what Parallel World brings to its customers. And also the fact that I came up with the name after an intense dream about traveling to parallel universe, but that's another story for another time.

I am currently selling on Etsy, which is an amazing selling community! Everyone helps each other, and we all spread the word about our fellow friends or favorite shops. I personally can't get off of Etsy because they've got treasury lists, a blog, videos, collaborations, food! and so much more. It's a great place to go to to find anything and also a great place to make new friends who share the same interests!

spring vacation beauty must-haves

just a few of my favorite beauty products for going on a beach vacation. these are products I actually use and love.
dolce&gabbana light blue has been my go-to perfume since i was in high-school and i barely ever smell it on anyone else. it is a great scent and the hubby loves it.
victoria's secret's beach sexy sunkissed self tan lotion is one of the few that actually have a nice scent. it is till self tan lotion so you will still get some of that slightly unpleasant smell but it's so much better than some of the others i have tried.
organix morrocan smooth perfection blow out cream helps keep my hair smooth and less frizzy in humid weather.
sunscreen is a must-have for a light skinned girl like me. i'm definitely no fan of the skin cancer.
lip balm is another must for when you're out in the sun a lot. keeps that pucker nice and smooth.
and when you're trying to boost your beachy wavy hair a little my recommendation is bumble and bumble surf spray.

this is not a sponsored post.

blueberry crumble bars

as promised here is the recipe for the blueberry crumble bars i made.
i actually had a frozen berry mix that i used instead of just fresh blueberries. it was delicious nonetheless. the original recipe came from here

here is what you'll need:

1 cup white sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks or 8 ounces)
1 egg
1/4 teaspoon salt
Zest and juice of one lemon
4 cups fresh blueberries (i used frozen)
1/2 cup white sugar
4 teaspoons cornstarch

9x13 pan (greased)
oven at 375F

in a bowl, mix together the cup of sugar, the 3 cups flour, the baking powder, salt and lemon zest.  blend in the butter and egg. dough will be crumbly.
in another bowl mix together the fruit, 1/2 cup of sugar, cornstarch and lemon juice.

press half of dough into the prepared pan.

add fruit and top with the remaining half of dough.
bake for 45 minutes. when top has turned golden brown remove from oven and let cool completely before cutting.
tastes extra yummy warmed up with some vanilla ice cream on the side.

{style files} a pleated skirt

skirt: f21, belt: old navy, tshirt: ae, heels: tjmaxx, lip color:  revlon, watch: michael kors

the great weather we had this past weekend called for a breezy skirt, so this pleated one was perfect. the hubby reminded me that it was in fact st.patrick's day and i was unintentionally wearing green (we are not irish). i informed him that i wasn't going to let that keep me from wearing the skirt and so i did. ha!
i love it. it was such an easy and comfortable look.
