like crazy

we watched this movie last night. it was good. it was a story we could personally relate to a great deal and it was portrayed in a way that made it feel so very real, brought back lots of memories and that feeling like there is something stuck in your throat and you can't swallow it no matter how hard you try.

so i thought to get it out of my system i'd just write this down.

it really took me back to the days when our story had just begun and we had no idea where it would take us. airports almost became our second home, a home we loved to visit in anticipation for that special visitor but also dreadfully had to return that person to when such a tiny piece of shared time came to an end. to this day and probably for the rest of my life, airports will be difficult places for me.

i remember the late night phone calls that we didn't want to end but had to. the video chats with a picture all jumbled up or frozen because of a slow internet connection. the whisperings of sweet nothings that meant so much. emails replaced love notes and little surprises in the mail made the time between visits bearable.

i remember going out with friends and not remembering much of anything or who had talked to me those nights. no, not because of alcohol. i remember forcing myself to go out at all. it was like living in slow motion while i was staring into space all night, trying to be polite to those actually still trying to make conversation with me when my thoughts were clearly somewhere else. somewhere on a different continent.

friends did their best to understand, couldn't understand, tried to steer me away but failed. as we grew closer some of those friendships started to fall apart.

i know that feeling of total helplessness and that bottomless longing for that other person. like you can't go on for another minute without them. and then you do go on. another day and another day because you don't know any other way. because there is that glimmer of hope and the determination that you are meant to be with that person for the rest of your life.

and then you just jump without quite knowing what you'll land on. you take that leap of faith because it's the only thing that makes sense. and maybe you're just a little crazy.

in may of 2006, 21 year old me got on a plane to cross an entire ocean and not look back.

sometimes it takes a good movie to make 27 year old me reflect on life. i think 21 year old me had way more guts than 27 year old me does ;)

if you have no idea what i'm even talking about, click here

oh and go watch like crazy and let me know if you liked it.

{style files} boyfriend jeans and a military peplum jacket

jacket: f21, shirt: tj maxx, scarf: tj maxx (old), jeans: AE, belt: pieces, shoes: converse one stars (target),
i'm back. we've been busy this week trying to get ready for the hubs to go back to work. we cleaned out his closet and got rid of so much stuff. do your men still have t-shirts from high school or college in their closets? no? well mine sure did. not that he would wear them but they were just taking up so much space. so we spent a couple of afternoons sorting through old dress shirts, pants and sweats, made another donate pile, and ended up going shopping for some new things. i have to admit, the man sure looks extra handsome when he gets all dressed up.

{she made it} vintage lace inset t-shirt

today i have another sweet little re-fashion diy for you, this super cute lace inset t-shirt.

here is what you'll need:

sewing machine
t-shirt of your choice
piece of new or vintage lace the length of your shirt
pins
white thread
scissors
aleene's stop fraying

position the lace in the middle of the back of the shirt. pin it.

sew down both sides with a regular straight stitch making sure to follow the very outside edge of the lace. take your time and do it slowly. you don't have to be a pro at sewing to be able to do this :)

sew across the top as well and then turn the shirt inside out. cut out the rectangle between your sewn lines, leaving about 1/2" to 3/4". this step is voluntary. i did it because i wanted to be extra safe. t-shirt fabric doesn't usually fray so if this is too much work for you just skip this step.

now fold that fabric over and pin it again.

sew down both sides again making sure to stay on the very edge of the fabric. that way you will sew through the lace on the other side again which will give double hold. if you're not on the very outside edge your white line will show on the dark shirt fabric, so be careful and check once in a while.
lastly i also sewed a zig-zag stitch along the bottom edge of the lace. since you cut it there the edge is now unfinished and may start to unravel over time. i also used aleene's stop fraying on both of the unfinished edges of the lace. now turn your shirt inside out again.

you're done :)

you just turned an old boring t-shirt into a sweet little lace shirt. this took me about an hour to do, start to finish. if you make one i would love to see it sometime.

{style files} neon scarf and moccasins

sweater: h&m, shirt: ae, pants: only, scarf: the gap, shoes: minnetonka, sunglasses: kenneth cole

i'm not particularly in love with this outfit but at least it was comfortable enough for the park. i scored these minnetonka moccasins for only $17 at american eagle and it was nice enough outside for me to wear them. i think my pants were just not tight enough, maybe leggings next time? what about that sweater? i'm thinking maybe it looks too much like a maternity piece? lots of issues with this one...

now for the man that looks great in anything... this is where he style post ends and the mama swoons over her babe - part begins.

i just realized that in most of these pictures he holds his thumb with his index and middle finger. How funny is that?

the hubs came home yesterday so i made those blueberry crumble bars and some delicious turkey burgers for dinner. i'll share the recipes later this week. it's supposed to be really nice this week with temperatures in the 70s and lots of sunshine. today is a little gray and rainy so i think we may take a trip to ikea. what a boring post today ;)

gave kisses and hugs (yes even mama got some)
grew some more hair
had another tooth come through and found two more that are close
made flat bread pizza that was to die for
made fruit salad for dessert
showed mama that size 12m clothing is really too small now
went to tj maxx with mama and smiled at ourselves in the mirror
had a ton of fun in the bathtub
dyed some fabric that didn't turn out so well (bummer)
got chinese take-out where one little man made a face that let mama know what he thought about waiting
lost daddy to work at spring training
missed daddy a lot
had grandma over for a night and all day saturday
went grocery shopping without the little guy
realized once again how much we dislike wal-mart
prepared logan's meals for the week
made something awesome that involved lace and sewing
just realized that there has not been one picture of either of our dogs and feeling pretty bad about it (vow to be better)

wild and wonderful

last week we went on a mini vacation. we cooked lots of yummy food. went out to dinner. watched too many episodes of downton abbey. had playtime outside. went antiquing and just enjoyed being away for a while. the little man had a blast at the playground. doesn't he look like such a little daredevil? his dad tried going down with him but they got stuck... let me tell you, those slides are not made for us adults. so we just stuck to catching him and taking pictures.
i loved that evening sun. just gorgeous.

have a wonderful weekend
